For over two centuries Chabad-Lubavitch has translated deeply rooted Jewish concepts into a practical foundation for life. Under the leadership and inspiration of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, Chabad grew into the world’s largest Jewish educational outreach programme. Our philosophy remains surprisingly simple: Love every Jew. Educate every Jew. Reach out to help every Jew.
We open our arms and our hearts to all, regardless of background or affiliation. Innovators who believe in people, we continually seek new ways to interest Jews in Judaism. Chabad doesn’t only talk concepts; we bring them to life.
A Beacon of Light on the NorthCoast
For the Jew searching to take another step on his or her spiritual journey, we offer innovative educational programmes in all areas of Jewish life – for all ages. For those who are looking for a traditional, warm minyan, we have a shul. For one who feels he or she has no Jewish background at all, we are a beacon of light to show that every Jew is a rightful heir to a heritage that is immensely rich with purpose and meaning.
Chabad has been an integral part of the Jewish communal scene in Umhlanga since 1987. From humble beginnings on Lagoon Drive, to 10 years at 5 Oceanway, Chabad House has become synonymous with Judaism. Unfortunately, our rented property was sold and developed, leaving us with no option but to relocate and re-establish ourselves in new premises
Beam in on 11 Flamingo Lane
In Umhlanga, searching for a site to house a religious organisation has been a huge challenge. Position has been key in our search, and due to the council’s strict zoning laws, we have spent several years looking for the right place to establish a permanent home for Chabad House. We have, thank G‑d, finally found a building at 11 Flamingo Lane. Special consent has been granted and we are excitedly planning a wonderful future in Umhlanga.
The property is very well suited for a Chabad House:
Central Location: close to the Umhlanga Village. Maximum 8 minutes walk from the major hotels. 20 minutes walk to anywhere else in Umhlanga!!
Building Size: well suited for the needs of the organisation - a Shul, a library, multimedia room and lounge, a Jewish resource centre, administrative offices and a kosher kitchen, children’s playground.
Eternal Flames
Our shul and lecture hall are a constant source of inspiration.
We offer traditional “user-friendly” services on Shabbat and weekdays. The Shul is used throughout the year by more than 40 local families and caters to the needs of year-round holiday-makers during school holidays, long weekends and all Jewish holidays. Out-of-season minyanim are often specially organised so that an individual can observe Yartzheit and say Kaddish.
Every Shabbat a Kiddush/Brocha and occasional “Simchas” will be held in this area – specially decorated for celebrations.
Chabad House will serve as the venue for adult education programmes and guest speakers.
Regular Shabbat and Yom Tov Dinners will be hosted at Chabad House, creating a home-away-from-home, or an inspiring atmosphere for local and visitor alike.
Cool on weekdays Chilled on Shabbos
Visit our Shabbos Lounge / Multi media Resource Centre. During the week this area will serve as the highway for Jewish information, including a Jewish Internet Café. Jewish Books, tapes and videos will be available as well as computer stations with Jewish educational software. As we slow down and contemplate Shabbat afternoon, the ideal time to spend in leisurely study, socialising or just relaxing, this super-highway will become a congenial setting for these purposes.

Shabbos: Mincha followed by Kabbolas Shabbos and Maariv 6:15pm. Shacharis 9am.
