Tanya Printing Dedication in Umhlanga

  • PRINTING A TANYA AT CHABAD IN UMHLANGA

In December 1796  a new work of Jewish thought was published, authored by one of the greatest minds of the time, Rabbi Schneur Zalman, the  Alter Rebbe, founder of Chabad. Within a few years the Tanya revolutionized the Jewish community of Russia, its impact felt throughout Eastern Europe and beyond.

The Tanya was published many times during the 19th and 20th centuries as the need arose. It’s been translated into multiple languages and scores of volumes of commentary have been written to make it more accessible to a wider audience.

In early 1984, the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, launched a campaign to have Tanyas printed all over the world. The idea was to bring an infusion of spiritual energy to each community. Over 6,000 editions have since been printed in every corner of the globe, including Beirut and even Gaza!

The Rebbe emphasised the tremendous positive impact the printing of Tanya has on each location of printing, as well as great blessings it showers on everyone involved in the printing.

Now, for the very first time, Chabad in Umhlanga, whose sole purpose is to spread the light of Judaism throughout our community, will be printing its own Tanya in Umhlanga.

As it is a special merit to participate in its printing, we are offering all members of the local community, holidaymakers and backpackers, to have their name included in the back of the Umhlanga edition of Tanya at the cost of R360 per name.

Those wishing to be part of the official sponsorship pages, a donation of R900 for half a page, R1800 a full page and R18000 for one of the five sections of the Tanya, is requested

To participate, please email  [email protected] or fill out the form below.

For each name please include full Hebrew names and mother’s Hebrew name, as well as the English spelling of the family name.

This Edition of the Tanya in Umhlanga will be dedicated in Honour of the Lubavitcher Rebbe's 30th Yarzheit and his Shluchim, Shlomo and Devorah Wainer, who have been serving the Jewish Community of Umhlanga and Kwazulu-Natal for 30 years.
